Joining a Server

How to find, select, and connect to an HWS Frontier server.

So, you're ready to head in-game and join the fun? Joining an HWS server is straightforward. Before you begin, make sure you already have Rust in your library on Steam. If you're completely new to Rust, start with What is Rust first. If not, you can get Rust from the Steam Store:

Join with Steam#

  1. Open our Server Selection page.
  2. Click "Join in Rust".
  3. Rust should launch and connect you automatically.

If clicking the button does nothing, make sure Steam is running, then try again.

We recommend selecting the server where you have the best ping (lower is better).

Starting Out#

When you first join an HWS server, you will automatically receive a free starter kit.

The kit contains basic tools to help you get started and progress a little easier, without letting you skip too far ahead. This makes it easier to recover if you die early. By day three and day seven of a season, the kits get better, so you have an easier time competing with other players after a setback.

If your first few spawns are rough, don't worry. That's normal in Rust, and it gets much easier once you settle in.

If you need a clan, you can join our Discord server and find others who may be recruiting.
