3. Behavior & Chat

Understand what is and what isn't acceptable chat behavior.

Last updatedApril 20268 VIEWS

HWS Frontier is a PvP server, and some trash-talking, rivalry, and banter is a natural part of the game - and entirely expected. What is not acceptable is behavior that crosses into harassment, hate speech, or content that makes the server a hostile place for everyone.

If you believe someone is violating these rules, create a ticket in our Discord server at https://discord.hws-rust.com in #🔥|create-help-ticket. Tickets are private between you and staff members, although other users can be invited.

3.1 Language#

The global chat on HWS is English-only. This ensures staff can moderate conversations effectively and keeps the community connected. Private messages and party chats may be in any language.

Excessive vulgar language and personal insults directed at other players are not allowed. An occasional frustrated outburst is understandable, but targeted or repeated profanity aimed at a specific player is not.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.

3.2 Toxicity & Trolling#

Toxicity, trolling, and advertising are not allowed.

Definition: Toxicity is any behavior intended to provoke, demean, or create a hostile environment for other players, without constructive purpose.

That includes, but is not limited to:

  • Deliberately provoking players to get a reaction, or persistently targeting the same player with negativity.
  • Encouraging others to pile on a player, or joining in on toxic behavior already in progress. Participating in toxicity is just as bad as starting it.
  • Advertising other servers, communities, Discord servers, or external services in chat.

If you have a conflict with another player that does not belong in global chat, take it to a private message.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.

3.3 Respect & Verbal Abuse#

All players are expected to treat each other with basic respect. The following are not allowed under any circumstances:

  • Racism, sexism, or discrimination of any kind, including slurs, derogatory language, or harassment based on someone's identity.
  • Personal insults or verbal abuse directed at a specific player, especially when repeated or escalating.
  • Shaming or real-life threats of any kind.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.

3.4 Spam#

Spamming chat or voice channels is not allowed.

  • Chat spam includes posting the same or similar messages in quick succession, flooding chat with nonsense, or using excessive capitalization.
  • Voice chat spam includes holding your microphone open unnecessarily, playing loud audio through it, or otherwise disrupting communication for other players.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.

3.5 Offensive Names & Content#

Offensive, inappropriate, or intentionally provocative content is not allowed, even if the platform - such as Steam - permits it. This applies to:

  • Player names that contain slurs, hate speech, or content designed to offend or impersonate.
  • Clan names and tags, which are held to the same standard as player names.
  • In-game signs and notes, which are treated the same as chat. Offensive content written on a sign in the world is not exempt from these rules.

Admins may ask a player to change an offending name or remove content. Refusing to do so is treated as a rule violation.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.

3.6 Controversial Topics#

Discussions around religion, politics, gender, and similar divisive subjects have no place on HWS. These topics tend to escalate quickly and create a hostile environment for everyone else.

This is not a debate platform. Keep those conversations off the server entirely.

Potential Punishments#

  • Mute, Temporary Ban, or Permanent Ban.
